Departmental Profile

The Cotton College Computer and IT education center was inaugurated on 30 July 2003 at the first floor of the Students’ Day Home at the College premise. The North East Council, Shillong, had funded the center initially. In 2004 after the appointments given by the government, the Computer Science Department came into existence, which is now housed with the Computer Centre. The department is in very initial stage now. B.Sc major course in Computer Science was introduced last year only. The department is having two batches with Computer Science as major subject. This year the department has also introduced BCA course. BCA is a semester course and in this session 1^st semester of BCA 22 students have been admitted. The department is also running Computer Science as a subsidiary subject in TDC (Science) as per syllabus of Gauhati University . The department will also start diploma course in computer hardware and networking very soon. Besides these, the department also runs two short-term courses such as:

1. Certificate course in Computer basics

2. Certificate in programming language(C, C++)

LIBRARY

The department also has a well stocked seminar library with more than 200 books and other software needed for the various course wares.
